The Making of Prayer Flags

High in the Tibetan Himalayan, colorful flags of blue, white, red, green, and yellow flutter in the wind. These are Tibetan prayer flags. "Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, which is a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and... Continue Reading →

Gratitude on Display

One thing we do in November is put our gratitude on display. Practicing gratitude trains us to be in the moment, to slow down when life gets crazy, look around and realize life is pretty awesome. It won't take away our troubles but, the deliberate act of practicing gratitude at the end of the day... Continue Reading →

Give thanks in the everyday

We are practicing gratitude with our 30 Things around here. Because every little thing is a gift. It is a reason to give thanks. I am working my way to 1,000 things…because we all need more thankfulness, recognize His gift, big and small, in our life. Taking account of the little, everyday things in our... Continue Reading →

The Halloween decorations have been stored away. I am finding empty candy wrappers on the floor...evidence of trick-or-treating overboard.  And we know what season follows Halloween? Springtime Re-do

Somewhere around the first of January I chose my One Little Word for 2015. I was stoked when Create whispered to my heart. I chose the word create because that is an area in my life I felt I had neglected for some time. I busied myself with collecting supplies, making a small space to... Continue Reading →

String Art Project for Valentine’s Day

My One Word for 2015 is Create. Thanks to Pinterest I have a serious case of Create Envy. First up on the create list is this string art project for Valentine's Day. Do you remember making string art in grade school? I vaguely remember making a gold and orange owl mounted on a brown piece... Continue Reading →

Everyday Creativity That Happens Around Here

This is the everyday. This is the seemingly simple, everyday creativity that happens around here. When I am old and gray, these are the moments I want to remember. My eight-year-old is busy creating art on top of the dining room table. All her new art supplies that she received for Christmas are scattered in... Continue Reading →

One Word 2015 | CREATE

Do you make New Years resolutions? Not me. I always have good intentions to get in shape. Then, by February I am sitting on the couch eating Cheetos watching The Biggest Loser. Instead of a resolution I choose One Word. One word helps keep me focused for 365 days. Every year I wait. I wait... Continue Reading →

9 Things This Week…

I would like to say it's been slow around here... This week has been nothing but slow. It has been C-R-A-Z-Y! 9 things this week... Two trips to the ER. Hubby has kidney stones, and anything that can bring a grown man to tears, on his knees, making deals with whomever will take the pain... Continue Reading →

Spread the Love + Free Printable

I love a good love story...And for the past few years, I’ve witnessed an epic love story that even Hollywood couldn’t write. It has scenes of desperate broken-hearted girls, born into unthinkable poverty, used and abused by this world, fighting to survive… But then, the Rescuer comes. And He takes the bruised and shattered lives,... Continue Reading →

Is it too Early to Post Christmas Photos?

It it too early to start thinking about Christmas? Before the Halloween candy is handed out? It's not like I am putting Christmas lights up on the house...but I have started quilting/sewing decorations and gifts for Christmas. This week I finished making each of us quilted Christmas stockings. Using fabric leftover from my Christmas quilt,... Continue Reading →

Damn you Pinterest!

Damn you Pinterest for making me a digital hoarder of: Clever organization ideas  for my cupboards and closets that I am too lazy to implement; Ridiculously handy home projects that I am not handy enough to complete; Yummy treats that I can never eat because I am on a never-ending diet; Places that I can... How to Make a Wreath Squirrel Feeder for $3

My backyard is turning into an urban zoo. I bought a house for the woodpecker who was pecking on the side of our house. I keep my bird feeder stocked at all times (for birds, and squirrels). I keep sugar water in my hummingbird feeder. So, you know it was only a matter of time... Continue Reading →

December Daily | Three, Ornaments

This year I made ornaments from an old Scrabble® game. If you don't have an old game lying around the house, you might be able to find an inexpensive set at a second-hand store. Spell out your words. They could be anything that has meaning to you. Even spell gift recipients names. I originally got... Continue Reading →

Instant fireplace for the holidays

It's a little tradition with the kids. Since we don't have an actual fireplace, we create a paper fireplace and decorate it. Usually we draw the complete scene out on butcher block paper, but this year we got a little more creative. We used twelve 12x12 sheets of brick printed scrapbooking paper found at Hobby... Snowy weekend

As I write this on a snowy Saturday afternoon I feel more like crawling under the bed covers. Last night we picked up our ’72 Charger up from restoration. It’s been in the shop since May to have it completely redone. I will post more on that next week. Glenn was like a little kid... Continue Reading →

Passing the days

We got 3 new mice this weekend. The girls made this lame attempt to say it was my "mother's day gift" but really they wanted the mice. They did allow me to pick one out for myself but I foot the bill! Mother's Day...bah humbug! I hope you were one of the lucky mothers out... Continue Reading →

Dog collar with bling

I got this super cute dog collar in the mail from my step-mom today. She hand sews these glass beads onto the collars. This is the perfect amount of bling for our poodle, Rocco. He looks so fierce, don't you think. Thanks Kathleen!
