Valentine’s Eve

"But more than three words mumbled before bedtime. Love is sustained by action, a pattern of devotion in the things we do for each other every day." Nicholas Sparks

Orchids at Botanic Gardens

These photos of Orchids were taken at Denver Botanic Gardens. I went to the Gardens on Tuesday to check out their orchid showcase and to get a little shooting in. Once hubby and my friend have their surgeries next week I will be sticking close to home and probably won't get out much. Winter is... Continue Reading →

Project Life | Week Four

Finally! It's snowing. I have the flu but I couldn't resist take a few quick shots of the snow on the way to drop the kids off at school this morning. Would you say that is dedication or an illness? Parker got a tattoo this week. Yep! It's a full tattoo on her back. Thankfully... Continue Reading →

Winter photography at the lake

I skipped the gym Friday morning to walk around a nearby lake. Who says you shouldn't shoot into the sun? It's been in the high 50s this week in Denver. We just might get some much needed snow this weekend. Cross your fingers.

December Daily | Fourteen, Spiderweb

I am turning out all the lights in the house. The kids are tucked into bed but they are trying to get out of bed. I walk through the dining room when I turn around to see a huge spiderweb. I mean, it is HUGE! Like, as-big-as-a-dinner-plate huge. I am not freaked out by spiders.... Continue Reading →

December Daily | Six, All is Bright

Photography Assignment: Food. It's no surprise I chose to photograph cupcakes for this assignment. I photograph them a lot. But I was really more interested in the Brokeh lights. I finally got it! All is bright.

Tuesday photos

Yesterday I ran errands all morning. And, all morning I would look to the West and see this view: When I was finished with errands, I grabbed my camera and went for a quick drive for a closer look. Then, this morning, as I was taking the kids to school, the full moon was still... Continue Reading →

Why I live here: First snow of the season

Thursday | October 25  I woke up this morning with a sinus headache. A cold front moved into Colorado and the pressure is messing with my head. Oh, there is snow on the ground. Maybe three inches. I wasn't in the mood to do anything--including the housework that I had planned. As I took the... Continue Reading →

What are you going to do when you grow up?

I was asked (again) last week, "What do you want to do when you 'grow up'?" Now that is a loaded question. Since I left the printing industry in May to stay home with the kids, I have asked myself that same question. I want to do something involving photography...but what exactly? I haven't nailed... Photography Assignment: Sweet

This week's DPS photography assignment: SWEET Yesterday it was 80 degrees. Today it is freezing in Colorado. We got our first official snow. It was just a dusting. Looked kind of like powder sugar on the ground. Which got me thinking about sweets. The photography assignment this week from DPS is "sweet".  That could be... Continue Reading →

A little bit of everything

Finally, I got out-of-town and into the mountains I love! This past weekend was possibly the last chance to see the Aspens in all their glory of gold and orange. Taking the advice of a friend we headed up Hwy 119 from Boulder to Nederland, Colorado. I posted over on my travel blog about hiking... Continue Reading →

Timing is everything.

"Anyone who’s ever missed their shot by a fraction of second understands why timing is so crucial in photography. Today, the Colorado Department of Transportation closed the Mount Evans road, Highway 5, and will not reopen it until spring." That was the email I received on Thursday. I was scheduled to be on Mt. Goliath... Continue Reading →

These trees have eyes.

Everyday I walk the kids to (or from) school. I walk by these trees with their bark eyes. Are they following me... Because it was so dry this summer the Aspens are turning earlier than usual. Maybe I will drag the kids (kicking and screaming) up the mountain after church on Sunday. Or, maybe I... Continue Reading →

A wonderful rainy day…

Yesterday it rained most of the day. In my heaven it will rain everyday. So, after doing my morning cleaning there was nothing else to do but head outside with an umbrella and my camera. Thor doesn't care that it is raining; he still wants to play ball! Rocco went to the salon. He is... Continue Reading →

Lazy Friday

Today I dropped the girls off at school, took a 40 minute walk, cleaned the black lab hair off the floor (sweep, Swiffer, & vac), cleaned the bathroom sink and shower, loaded & unloaded the dishwasher, started two loads of laundry, shopped at Costco for steaks, then I finally relaxed. Is that bad? Not even... Continue Reading →

Photography Assignment: 50mm

I have been busy reading books that will advance my photography. It is a passion that has followed me throughout my life, but admittedly, I have become lazy in my technique. So, advancing my technique is my goal. I would love to make money in photography somehow, particularly in macro. Can I make money taking... Continue Reading →

Tennessee: The List, part three

Continued from part two of our adventure in Gatlinburg...although neither of these locations are in Gatlinburg. Most extravagant: Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. Just 2 hours drive from Gatlinburg, the Biltmore is the largest privately owned home in the U.S. Built by George Washington Vanderbilt II, the home is a mere 175,000 square feet,... Tennessee: The List, part one

We're back from Gatlinburg, Tennessee. And, I have to say, I left a little but of my heart there. I didn't expect too. The Great Smoky Mountains were not on my Travel Bucket List. Not even close. But, I love mountains. These are not like the Colorado Rocky Mountains. They're completely different, and both beautiful... Continue Reading →
