One Word Christmas: Light

I usually pick one word for the New Year, but lately I have been feeling I need a word for the Christmas season too.

Basically, it is because of that over-whelming feeling I get every season. You know that feeling. The one that we feel we have to do it all this year. We have to buy the perfect gifts and get them shipped, on time. Christmas comes just once a year, after all. We have only one chance to get it right. Until next year.

Instead, having One Word to focus on gives us a chance to, well, focus on what Christmas really means. When we get that stressed out feeling we can stop, say our word to re-focus, and breathe. And then I think, “We can’t do that.”

Then, I see this post in my inbox from Holley Gerth that shouts, “Yes, you can!”

So. I did.

blossom of lights, one word christmas, light

Because Jesus is the light of the world. And I need more Jesus.

Because the sight of a full church lighting candles at Christmas Eve service while singing “Oh, Holy Night” makes my eyes tear up. This part of the song:

“…Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine…”

Because light is the only thing that can break through the darkness. I mean that in the literal and figurative sense.

Because of the light of a star guiding shepherds to a manger with a baby.

Because I love Christmas lights.
