December Daily | One, Advent

It’s time once again for December Daily. December Daily is a scrapbooking album project by Ali Edwards that celebrates all things December. Even if you are not into scrapbooking you can still participate through your journaling, photography, or blogging. It’s a great way to document this special time of the year. And to document stories of your family for future generations, which is why I do it every year.

Day One: Advent Countdown Garland and Advent Bible Study Guide

Why Advent? Advent is a time of spiritual reflection and celebration leading up to the birth of Christ on December 25th.  Advent starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. The word ‘Advent’ is from the Latin word “Adventus,” which means “coming.” It is more than simply marking a 2,000 year old event in history. It is celebrating a truth and the Word of God. It is the spiritual journey of us all, as we affirm that Christ, our Savior, has come, that He is ever-present in our world today, and that He will reign again.

Now, for the Advent calendar that I made for the girls…

Okay, so this is how I made our Advent Countdown Calendar:

Use Mitten Garland Kit by Robert Stanley (Hobby Lobby), then using double stick tape I attached the small red bags (Micheal’s) to the back of each mitten; this makes a pocket to put two small pieces of candy. I hot glued a red pom pom to each mitten that was included in the kit. Then, I used the snowflake garland from Target to attach the mitten bags along the string with the clothespins from the mitten kit. I plan on putting a card in about every 3rd mitten that also says something like “Look under the tree” or “Look for a hidden package in the tree”. There will be a little present for each of the girls as an extra treat. I am sure this part will be a huge hit!

  1. Love your mitten advent garland! I thought I’d do that one year with mini mittens (for babies) … bought myself a bunch of mittens at the dollar store, garland, paper clips, glitter, hot glue … and all of that is still in my craft cupboard! oops! I’m doing December Daily but haven’t posted any images yet 🙂

    1. Wow! That sounds so cute. I thought about using holiday socks for each day. Could probably get them at the Dollar Tree too.
